Ever try wearing a skirt over a dress?! Give it a try! It turned out to be one of my favorite looks and now I want to do more remixes like this in my closet. I love the pop of red at the bottom peeking out like a slip because the dress is slightly longer than the skirt. I've got a few more holiday remixes for you and then my December challenge is over. Stay tuned!
One of my favorites and classic go to look is the chambray over the dress. If you've followed me for awhile now you knew this outfit was coming. You just can't go wrong with a chambray button down. If you don't have one by now, I'm telling you it's a wardrobe life saver!
I haven't even gotten to the red strapless dress yet and I'm outfit #10! Here I folded the strapless inside and wore it over the gold dress. If you have to fold a dress to make a skirt, you might feel like it's bulky. This is where the belt helps. It sinches, keeps the skirt in place, and reduces the bulk so you can wear a dress as a skirt. A whole new way to look at the 2 holiday dresses you have in your close and that 3rd party you have to go to without wearing same dress twice!
This one is probably by far one of my favorite remixes! It almost seems as if it is completely one dress because the skirt and dress go together so well. I'm in love with the mix of both pieces and the sheer band around the dress ties it all together. Outfit is simply adding the skirt over the dress. I kept the jewelry and heels simple. Wouldn't this look cute with a black leather bomber?! Ok, wearing this to the next holiday party!
Another option for the jumper is to pair the chambray top over it and again create a pants look compared to all over jumper. Just to change it up and wear it different if it is your go to holiday piece. When you need that bit of glitz in the gold pants but more casual top. Then I added a chunky gold necklace and a popped collar for some extra flare!
Yes you can also wear the dresses and jumper just the way they are to have an outfit. But maybe you've worn it before and you want to change it up just a bit. How about trying pops of color? Adding a belt? Chunky jewelry? Any of these can change something old and make it new again or change up how you've worn the same thing before.
Again I'm wearing the OMG Santa shirt (yes, my son's and too small) but when remixed properly, it just works! I paired the top over the gold and black dress, sparkle heels, and double stud wrap bracelet from Boho Betty.
Confession: I don't actually own a Christmas shirt. This is my son's. I really wanted to keep with my remix theme from my iBook though and incorporate a staple item such as a tee. So I remixed his shirt with the pencil skirt. This time I wore the skirt the right way and zipper is in the back. I added a chunky belt and some bracelets. I decided against a necklace as I didn't want to take away from the graphic tee.
Skirt and heels: Charlotte Russe, Top: Old Navy (boys), studded bracelet: Boho Betty
Heres another outfit that given the option of the clothes I laid out in the challenge you would naturally put together a top with a skirt. But there's some variations you can work with here. For example I tied the chambray into a knot. You could tuck it in, or wear it out. I also wore the skirt backwards because I wanted the gold belt in the front. Obviously you could wear it the way it's meant to be. I just mentioned at least 5 different ways to remix these 2 pieces. So make it your own and have fun!
Did you recognize the skirt? It's actually the top I've worn in both outfit #1 and #2. Yes, of you have an off shoulder elastic too it will most likely fit around your waist. Yes the sleeves show, but it looks like an extra ruffle and I kinda dig the detail. I tucked the chambray button down into the skirt (really a top) and added my grandmas gold belt. It's the piece in my closet I could never live without!!
